Data Source Editor

The Data Source Editor is used to manage and preview the data that drives your Layouts.

It provides an interface for connecting Data Sources (tables of information) to your Layouts, so each row of data can automatically populate a card design.

The editor is divided into three main sections, labeled in the image below:

Row Selection (A) #

This panel lists the rows of your Data Source table.

Each entry here represents one card that will be generated using the assigned Layouts.

  • The names shown here come from the column you’ve set as the Name Column in the Data Source Properties.
  • These rows will only appear once both a Name Column and an ID Column are defined.
  • Selecting a row updates the Layout Preview (B) with that row’s data.

Tip:
The row list is a quick way to navigate between cards and verify that data linking is working correctly in your Layout.

Layout Preview (B) #

This panel displays a preview of the Layouts for the selected row in your Data Source.

To have previews display in this panel, the Default Front Layout and /or Default Back Layout must be set in the Data Source Properties.

  • The Front Layout appears on the left.
  • The Back Layout appears on the right.
  • The preview shows how data from the selected row fills in linked properties within the Layout.
    • For example, text, images, or numbers.
  • The Layout shown here is read-only. You can’t move or edit Layers from this view as it’s strictly for visualization and validation.

Data Source Properties (C) #

When a Data Source is selected in the Project Tree, this section becomes visible on the right.

It contains all editable settings that define how the Data Source behaves and how it connects to Layouts.

Typical Workflow #

  1. Create or open a Data Source.
  2. In the Data Source Properties (C), define at minimum:
    • ID Column
    • Name Column
    • Default Front Layout or Default Back Layout.
  3. Once these are set, the Row Selection list (A) will populate with entries.
  4. Click a row to preview it in the Layout Preview (B).
  5. Adjust Layout or Data Source settings as needed to ensure all linked data displays correctly.
