Selection Overview

Selection in Cocktail Card Designer determines what you see and edit throughout the interface. Every major area of the workspace responds dynamically to what’s currently selected.

How Selection Works #

Selection is typically indicated by a highlight, either yellow or blue.

You “select” things by left-clicking them or navigating a list with the arrow keys.

Selection drives both the Central Panel and the Property Editor:

  • The Central Panel displays the content view of whichever project file is selected.
  • The Property Editor displays the properties of the selected item, whether that’s a file from the Project Tree or a Layer within a Layout.

This two-part relationship ensures you always have both a visual workspace and a property-based editor for the same selection.

File-Level Selection #

The Central Panel is driven by what file is selected in the Project Tree.

When you select a file, such as a Layout, Set, Data Source, or Export Profile, it opens in the Central Panel as the active document.

  • Only one file can be displayed at a time.
  • This makes it easy to move between editing Layouts, reviewing Sets, or adjusting data without opening multiple windows.

Whichever file is open in the Central Panel is considered the primary selection for the project.

Property-Level Selection #

The Property Editor adapts based on what’s selected anywhere in the workspace.

When you select:

  • A Project Tree file:
    • The Property Editor shows high-level project or file settings.
  • A Layer in the Layout Editor
    • The Property Editor switches to show Layer-specific properties (position, alignment, data links, etc.).
